I love a yard filled with light and colorful flowers but I lack a green thumb and we try to keep our electric and water bills low.
Fortunately, I live in a place where the sun is plentiful and ideal for solar-powered lights of every kind.
Having lived in upstate New York, Colorado, and Oregon I’d spent most of my life with lush flowers, shrubs and trees all around me.
Over twenty years ago, though, I moved to just outside Phoenix, Arizona and landscaping is a whole other animal here.
The ground is dry, we’re often in a drought and seasonal winds can send leaves of nearby bushes into one’s pool – something we try to avoid because it’s a job keeping it clean without that added hassle.
We get a stunningly low amount of rain each year so it takes more care and effort to fill a yard with flowers.
It doesn’t help that I seriously lack anything approaching a green thumb.
So, several years ago I began resorting to solar flowers to decorate my yard. I have spent over $1000 dollars in that time on roses, sunflowers and related patio lighting. (My latest favorites are those that cast patterns!)
I have them around my pool, around my patio, and stuck in various parts of my yard.
I’ve had dozens of sets over the years – different colors, different styles, and for different areas of my back yard and patio.
I’ve developed quite a fascination with them and family members no longer ask what I want for my birthday or Christmas. They simply buy any of these they find that I don’t already have – all which require no water, no care, and thrive in the Arizona sun.
In fact, I’ve become so enthralled with these and other patio lighting that I created this website to share my tips and ideas for using solar lights in new and creative ways.
I have over ten years of experience professionally writing about consumer products so this seems a natural fit.
I hope you’ll find this site helps you choose the perfect solar lighting and garden accents for your home.
